We have now the old cabinet at home. The custom process was rather smooth at the airport (we just needed to pay 25 euros to the handling company, and get various stamps in different places in order to pick up the package). The item was well packed (in fact we had to make use of a special tool to cut the metal band around the box).
In summary, the purchase process was made very easy by Tenzin Tswang, who very professionally replied all our enquiries. We are happy to have at home the piece coming from Tibet, and pressumably as old as 120 years. If our travels take us to Kathmandu, we would very much like to stop by your shop (and maybe select another piece to send home)

Hello Tenzin,
Yes, everything went well. Qatar airlines doesn't fly to PHX, so the pieces were shipped via truck from Washington DC to Phoenix. I went to the trucking company to get the paperwork and then I drove over to US customs to clear the items. I drove back to the trucking company and they loaded the pieces onto a trailer I rented. It was all pretty easy. The only cost was a $35 "import fee" that the trucking company charged.
The pieces are unbelievable! I never thought that furniture could be so alive! Thanks so much for all of your efforts to make the transaction smooth! If I had more rooms I'd be buying more pieces from you!!

a business that is located in Nepal. It was a surprisingly smooth transaction, with much of the credit due to the owner, Tenzin. He returned emails promptly, and send the merchandise within a couple of days after we wired the payment. The chest was everything for which we were hoping.

I was recommended to TIBET FURNITURE's website by an American Tibetan
furniture dealer who is also my best friend. I was overwhelmed at
the selection of BEAUTIFUL cabinets and chests that he had. It was very easy to navigate the site, and Mr. Tsewang was a pleasure to deal with. He answered ALL of my questions( and there were many) and sent me as many close up photos that I needed to select what piece I wanted to buy. I ended up buying 2 exquisite pieces in superb condition, and now I have a part of the rich Tibetan culture that will live on in my home in San Francisco, California. My pieces arrived in only about 8 days, beautifully crated and in better condition than I thought for 18th c. pieces. I did this totally through Cyber Space and we never even spoke on the phone!!! All my friends are amazed at the beauty of what I bought. I am THRILLED with my purchases ! I would absolutely recommend Mr. Tenzin Tsewang!!

Picked up the chest on Monday can't believe how quickly you got it here, thank you so much am very pleased with it.
So you know you have to pay £33.00 to the handling agent then 4% import duty on your declared purchase cost then VAT at 17.5% on the total.
Mine come to approx £120.00 but I made a bit of a mess of it so it could have been cheaper.
I am really interested in buying more can you send me any photo's.
Am interested in the really old Tibetan pieces from 1800 or so chests cuboards etc please advise.

You have been wonderful. Thank you so much for keeping me informed of all details regarding my shipment. The numbers were very useful, and your e-mails very clear and easy to understand. Your English is amazing, better than my non-existent Nepali, or Tibetan, or Hindi. I'm jealous.
The way things are working out is like this:
The bed came from Atlanta (major airport in Southeastern part of our country) to Greenville, via truck. I have not been informed of any additional charges, and hopefully there will be none.
Once the bed arrived in Greenville, the shipper called me and told me to call the local US Customs office to arrange for an appointment for customs inspection. The customs officer who gave me the appointment was VERY NICE and said he didn't think I would have to pay duties on a piece of furniture, but he will let me know. After he does the inspection he will call me so I can go to the customs office to fill out required paperwork, and then I can go to the shipper to pick up the bed. Fortunately, the shipper and the customs offices in Greenville are very close to each other and only about 45 minutes from my home, which is close, in my opinion. I don't know if this would be the case in other cities.
So I think I will probably be hearing from the customs office sometime next week.
I will let you know how it goes.
